Pablo Iglesias co-founded Podemos in 2014 and was its secretary general until 2021. Deputy Prime Minister of the coalition government from 2020 to 2021, he has since run the online media outlet La Base. His Twitter account, opened in November 2010, is the oldest and most voluminous of the five Podemos profiles analyzed: 26,510 tweets over sixteen years. It is also the richest in nuance — and the most illuminating on the selective mechanics this series documents.

Iglesias is the only one of the five Podemos profiles to have substantial Ukraine coverage (218 tweets). He condemned the invasion in February 2022 — while maintaining a constant anti-NATO frame. He is also the only one to have defended Zelenski against accusations of being "neo-Nazi" — "a democratic hero," he replied to his detractors. His periphery is wider than his colleagues'.
Mahsa Amini: zero tweets out of 26,510. The "Woman, Life, Freedom" revolt of 2022 — 500 dead, executions — left no trace in the account of the commentator who comments on everything. Yet sixteen tweets from La Base promoted Iranian state television Press TV or the regime-linked channel Hispan TV. And in January 2026, while the regime was massacring its opponents, his outlet published rebuttals of "rumours" about schoolgirls killed by Israel — while the thousands of regime victims remained nameless in his account.
Iglesias has the word "terrorist" in his vocabulary — he used it for ETA, Al-Qaeda, jihadist groups in Syria. His constant rule: Hamas is never called "terrorist" in his own voice. His 29 mentions of Hamas are political analyses, historical contextualisations, citations of others. Never a direct condemnation, never the word "terrorist." And the hostages of October 7? Absent from his account for the first months.
Iglesias has the widest international distribution of the Spanish series: he genuinely covers Ukraine, Syria, Yemen, Nicaragua and Armenia. He defended Zelenski when others in his camp were denigrating him. His engagement on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, though dominant, includes documented criticism of West Bank settlement since 2013 — not just post-7-October. This is the most difficult profile to summarize, and it deserves the full nuance the data allows.
