Sudan's civil war began on 15 April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). OHCHR documented tens of thousands of civilian deaths; the U.S. envoy and international organizations estimated ~150,000 total killed by end 2025. The RSF was found by U.S. authorities to have committed genocide in Darfur. The fall of El Fasher to RSF in October 2025 killed an estimated 60,000–150,000 people. Sudan became the world's largest displacement crisis.
